Basket Tower

Towering plastic baskets in garish hues of colour hung from the ceiling, taking on the scale of an expensive artwork commissioned especially for the building. Yet the material used subverts the feeling of grand occasion, being cheap, disposable plastic- more at home instead in a floating outdoor market. Through the use of pretty, seemingly frivolous baskets forming a structural installation that acts as a kind of voice for the masses and invading an esteemed art institution, the artist democratises the space, putting power back in the hands of the people.
